P.S. I Love Blue

Updated: Jan 23, 2021

Pantone's color of the year for 2020 was "Classic Blue" but just because 2020 is over doesn't mean that the impact the color blue has on us no longer applies.

I LOVE all things blue in the home.

Towels, upholstery, paint, blankets... you name it, I love it in blue.

Or really any color.

Blue is also an incredibly flexible color as well! It can feel warm, cool, neutral, fun, subdued... it really can fit into any style you have or are trying to achieve.

Color, in general, surrounds us in our everyday lives and can really impact our moods and feelings... which is why I find choosing colors for a space is such a vital step.

In fact color choice is SO important, that companies like Pantone exists for the sole reason of COLOR. Color can express so many things that words can't; and allows us to feel certain ways in a space and choosing the right color for the space based on how you want that space to feel is why it is so important... Think about how red lipstick can make you feel? It's that exact concept!

If you're not familiar with Pantone, let me introduce you.

"Pantone Provides A Universal Language Of Color That Enables Color-Critical Decisions Through Every Stage Of The Workflow For Brands And Manufacturers.

Pantone Lifestyle brings color and design together across apparel, home, and accessories. "

Like I said, COLOR MATTERS.

As far as blue specifically, we based this project on Pantone's 2020 color of the year, "Classic Blue". Not only was it a color that the client really fell in love with, but it was a color with a meaning that they felt they could get behind. We all lead stressful, chaotic lives and to come home to a space you can feel good about? Well, that's what "coming home" is all about. I couldn't have said it better than Pantone said below about the color:

"A timeless and enduring blue hue, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is #elegant in its #simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a #dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.

Imprinted in our psyches as a restful color, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser like clarity, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue re-centers our thoughts. A reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience.

As technology continues to race ahead of the human ability to process it all, it is easy to understand why we gravitate to colors that are honest and offer the promise of protection. Non-aggressive and easily relatable, the trusted PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue lends itself to relaxed interaction. Associated with the return of another day, this #universalfavorite is comfortably embraced."

I have so many clients who are sometimes apprehensive to commit to colors. However, as you can see in these photos, taking that leap really can just lead you one step closer to making your home feel like an extension of yourself #beboldbeblue

This Project

As with any #remodel, this project absolutely had its challenges but overall was successful. We had to remove a load bearing wall and add a post, update the lighting and just really expand this space to make it more functional for the family. We used Medallion Cabinetry for this project with just a simple slab door. In true Rachel fashion, I neglected to get any before photos of this one, but it was a glorious transformation!
